ROMANO-BRITISH BRONZE BOAR MOUNT
ROMANO-BRITISH BRONZE BOAR MOUNT
A beautiful Roman zoomorphic bronze mount in the form of a realistically modelled wild boar. The boars head has been cast in the round with its eyes, snout, ears and dorsal ridge enhanced with engraved details. The form of the boars head is broadly conical and hollow with an opening at the mouth - making it possible that this was some kind of vessel mount although the deep fixing lugs look more like it was attached to a piece of furniture or similar. A wonderful little piece of Romano-British history found by metal detectorist in Lincolnshire. Stylistically this museum quality artefact dates to the 1st or 2nd century.
Dimensions: 31 mm x 27 mm x 12 mm.
