APULIAN RED-FIGURE LEKANIS LID, CIRCA 320 BC.

£195.00

A well preserved lid from an Apulian red-figure lekanis, produced in southern Italy and dating to around 320 BC. The lid is decorated with two female heads in profile, divided by palmettes. This particular type of pottery was used by women to store cosmetics or jewellery. The unusual footed lid allows it to be stood upside down like a bowl. A beautiful example with no chips or cracks.

Height: 52 mm. Diameter: 88 mm.
