An extremely rare silver denarius of this short-lived emperor. He took the imperial throne following Nero's suicide, his doomed reign lasting less than a year: from his proclamation as Emperor on the 3rd of April AD 68, to his assassination by the Praetorian Guard on the 15th of January AD 69. His severed head was taken to Otho in the Praetorian camp. This fantastic coin has a fantastic portrait of the elderly emperor, sharp details and attractive cabinet toning. A perfect addition to any early Imperial collection.
