A scarce brass dupondius struck by Caligula in honour of his deceased father Germanicus, who had died under suspicious circumstances around twenty years previously. Germanicus was a heroic general, widely loved by the Roman people. Naturally, Caligula represented his father on his coinage, both out of filial piety and as an attempt to win the hearts and minds of his subjects. This coin is in excellent condition.
