A scarce billon antoninianus of Postumus, the first Gallic Emperor struck in Trier, AD 266. Around AD 260 the Roman army in Gaul threw off its allegiance to Gallienus and elected Postumus as Emperor, annexing the provinces of Gaul, Germania, Britannia and Hispania and creating the breakaway Gallic empire. Postumus would reign for the next ten years before being assassinated by his own troops following his victory over Laelian at Mogontiacum (Mainz) in AD 269. A wonderful example in near mint condition, attractively toned, some surface deposits.
