MEDIEVAL BELT BUCKLE PLATE, CIRCA 13TH CENTURY.
MEDIEVAL BELT BUCKLE PLATE, CIRCA 13TH CENTURY.
£135.00
A beautiful medieval copper-alloy buckle plate of architectural form. The openwork plate is pierced in the form of a 13th Century Gothic window, through which the brightly coloured leather or fabric strap would have been visible. The surface of the plate has been finely engraved to create the effect of a vaulted arch. An excellent piece of design, evocative of a deeply religious period in British history. This interesting and attractive artefact was discovered by a metal detectorist in East Anglia.
